Oil Skimmer

The containment capacity of an oil barrier is usually quickly exhausted. Therefore it has to be planned from the beginning to remove the oil that has been collected from the water surface. Oil skimmers are useful for this. There are essentially two groups of equipment available, weir skimmers and adhesion skimmers. The weir skimmer works on the “hole in the water” principle. The oil runs over an overflow edge located just below the water’s surface into a container, from which it is pumped out. The adhesion skimmer consist of a surface that moves through the oil, to which the oil sticks and is later wiped off via a collecting container.
